What will you do ?

It’s winter here right now so I’m thinking about what will i do for season 2 to increase the quality of my vids. So i thought i would ask you all....what will you all do to make your videos better quality this year in 2021 vs 2020?

Increase my comfort in front of the camera to increase my content quality, and learn more stuff in Resolve so I can up my production quality. It's already pretty good [I think] but I could definitely use more practice in the editor and on the road... so more riding? :D

I'm also mixing in off-bike stuff so I can practice without having to ride in sub-freezing or snowy conditions. I've already seen VAST improvements in the past couple of months compared to my earlier videos.

I've started recording in 2.7k whereas before I was recording at 1080

How's your computer holding up to all that? And your cameras too? I have the ability to do up to 4k, but dang man, those files are huge and battery life takes a nosedive!

-John

My PC is a beast, it'd manage 8k no worries I bet! :D
I've just got a couple of 256Gb memory cards which will give me around 5hrs out of each at 2.7k. If I was doing a long trip/tour, I'll switch back to 1080, but for regular vlogs I'll do the 2.7k. I have 4 batteries for my Hero 9 and a wedge of batteries for my Hero 8.

That's awesome - my computer is beefy, but it's still a laptop. Right now it is STRUGGLING. I have a 30.5m video in Reseolve that has 6 video tracks, 4 audio tracks, and is running Alex Audio Butler to mix the audio for me, Fusion effects, graphic overlays, some light color grading, sound effects, and it started with 2.5 hours of footage. I think I have to move my sound effects/music tracks from a HDD to a SSD to help it out. It's quite bonkers. Oh, and all the footage is 1080p only.

I am currently torn between more or less nudity.

My goal is to become a smooth talker. ;-). No really. I think the best thing I can do, is make what I say more interesting and more polished so people don't hit mute.

As a note, glad to see you back, I wondered what happened when I hadn't seen a video for a few months.

Currently I'm struggling to find time to edit or post any videos. I'm snowed in, my battery is dead, and at the height of winter riding isn't much of an option. I have a lot in the vault, but I'm teaching remotely between 2 universities, with 10 classes a week.

Don't get me wrong, I'm beyond happy to be working, but damn, I really want to ride and edit so badly. Pandemic on top of winter on top of a stretched and busy schedule. I need the motovlog equivalent of Popeye's spinach.

That, or a winning lottery ticket.

On the plus side of things I'm getting my first vaccine shot next week :)

Good luck - I hope it doesn't make you ill! [I've heard it can cause short-term illness]

-John

Thanks, and there's always that chance, but like any vaccine they're designed to activate or jumpstart your immune system. The effects aren't always the onset of an illness, but what our bodies do to fight them off. High temperatures are our bodies way of fighting a flu or virus because the heat tends to kill them.

I know - just like the flu shot - but wanted to reinforce it in case anyone forgot :D

Some things I have in mind to improve Moto Mengy in 2021:

1. Include some drone footage from time to time!
2. Experiment with shooting the GoPros in non-auto settings and manually color balancing and such. Try some things to improve visual quality.
3. I'm going to make some how-to videos for the Goldwing.
4. I have a few new ideas for video concepts I'll try out, they might fail but I'll enjoy giving it a shot!

Other than that I'll just continue to ride and film and do what I did last year. This nonstop winter trap we're in here in PA needs to end first.
