Export format

I suppose this has been asked before maybe... But couldn't find it ;)

So, in which format do you guys export/render your vlog.

Is the difference between mpeg4, wmv, avi, m4v etc etc etc. when you watch it on the pc, and when it is online on youtube.
Is one more advisable than the other, or one that might be an absolute no-go?

H.264 MP4, 29k Mbps at 60 fps, but I would like to start experimenting with H.265, right now the export file sizes are huge.

I always click the one called 'Quicktime', which might be a form of mp4 come to think of it.

Quicktime is MOV. It's less compressed and is (potentially, depending on settings) higher quality.

But that means bigger files, which makes it more likely that YT further compresses it on their end - and who knows what they do to it...

H264 70Mbps fixed bitrate, 25fps, DCI 4k

Seems to work OK for me.

I tried VP9. The quality was great, but huge file size and it took 8x longer to render. Normally H264 renders at half real-time on my PC. I can love with that and it seems to take YT 2-3 hours to process the video to HD 4k

I use the free editing software Shotcut. It has an export for YouTube setting, that's what I use and it seems to work just fine. The file it puts out is mp4, I don't know if that's good or not but it's working so hurrah!
