..about To Start...

Hi guys, I'm about to start MotoVlogging, but I don't want to say much about myself though. I bought a Sony AS30V with waterproof case and the Sony Ball Head adapter. The camera is going to be mounted on the right of my helmet. I also ordered an Audio Technica ATR3350iS mike, but it hasn't arrived yet.

I'll be testing out my camera tomorrow, but I don't have editing software for my Mac yet, and from reading up on this forum it seems like iMovie may not be good enough or too much of a challenge for blurring out certain details. Not sure what to do there yet.

Okay, so maybe I was being a bit paranoid. I'm from Melbourne, Australia. On my third L plate (I let the previous two expire each time), so been biking for more than three years. Commuting in major cities from the start, which is why I got into bikes.

I'm a computer programmer, but interested in all things mechanical, as well as into quite a couple of activities like archery, boxing, running and of course riding motorbikes.

My current ride is a KTM Duke 390. I decided to start vlogging because I spend so much time on the bike every day, and you see some interesting things on the way.

You won't hear much talking from me while I ride, if at all, but I'll add text afterwards during editing. I still think with my riding style I have something to contribute and advice to gain, which is also part of the reason for vlogging.

Welcome to the community!

The first vlog is always the hardest, but this community is awesome for advice and support.

As far as blurring in iMovie goes, as you may have already read, it isn't too difficult to do if your target is mostly stationary. Moving targets are a bit different; you may have to manually move the blurred bit along with the video as iMovie doesn't have image tracking (I think it's called). Also: Welcome!

Cheers mate! Why do you reckon the first one is hard? Record, edit, upload, share, no?
It's a bit of everything. Talking while riding, talking without gaps and "ums", editing, channel themes, vlog topic etc.

Once you get your first one out of the way it gets a lot easier to do all that.

I'm not talking though, just riding and observing, I'll add text and thoughts afterward. The only talking you'll hear is when I get a fright, or when I'm interacting with someone during the ride.

Welcome, welcome, welcome, best of luck. Adobe Photoshop CS6 is a great edition software, strong, but different at first to start, but you'll get the hang of it.

Cheers mate, I downloaded a trial of Final Cut Pro X, will see how it goes. If you take the cost over a year, the Apple Pro level software is about half that of the Adobe full subscription. I'll see how it goes.

I hear good things about Fine Cut, tho I'm no fan of apple, so I don't use it. Nonetheless, best of luck, take your time, don't rush and soak up as much knowledge as you can.

Good luck mate and welcome. I use windows movie maker and occasionally corel video stupid pro

Recorded my first vlog today, got to work only to see I didn't press record on my standalone audio recorder! FFS!

Oh, that sucks. :( Are you still going to release the video or are you going to do a completely new one? Maybe chop and edit it into a teaser of some sort?

It was good footage too, I'll likely still use some of it, but I'm really bummed at the moment. Really thinking about drilling that hole in my Sony waterproof case and foregoing this whole standalone recorder deal. It has its perks though, just wouldn't want this to happen again.

So, now that I managed to record video and audio, I can't sync it because the Final Cut Pro X Trial version I downloaded has audio sync disabled LOL!

Do you have separate tracks for audio and video? Is it not just a case of sliding the dedicated audio track to match the audio in your video?

You'd think so, but obviously the Trial is just there to rope you in to buy, not an actual full version for 30 days. I'm thinking they picked the wrong marketing strategy.

[EDIT] Time to drill some holes in my Sony waterproof case. [/EDIT]

Good luck!

I did the same on my GoPro before moving over to a dedicated audio recorder so I went to opposite way :p
