Anyone here that actively use screen recorders on their pc for video's?

Which software/program do you use (and why).
And does it record audio from mic and from the screen itself at the same time?

I used to use Nvidia to record PC gameplay, it would record audio from my headset if I wanted it to

I use OBS, and it records my screen and my mic - either the one plugged in or the built-in mic on my laptop.

I use it because it's free and works well enough for my uses.

I've used portable quick screen recorder on windows few times. never had any success with audio with that. I could not be bothered to solve the issue, I just also turned on audacity and recorded the audio with that

I used a Cyberlink screen recorder today on my PC for a project for another motovlogger. I was surprised how well it worked and easy it was to use.

Hopefully the other motovlogger will release their project so I can cross promote their underrated channel.

When I need to screen capture something from the PC I just use the built in Windows 10 recorder to do it. Does the job fine and I've never had an issue with it.

Yeah, have used that as well in some moments.
But it can go weird when switching programs.

OBS seems to be highly recommended and there are plenty of tutorials etc on YT.
You can set up whatever cameras microphones and other sources as you like.
You can capture the whole screen, just a window or just a defined area. Very flexible.

I ought to look up some of those tutorials... I know OBS does a bunch of stuff, but haven't taken the time to figure it out.

Have been playing with the obs.
And i think it does it all.

Now just to write out what i want to record, and then record it xD

For OBS? I never looked... just set it up to be constant frame rate [Resolve doesn't like variable frame rate], then set the frame rate [30fps], told it to record my 2nd monitor, and hit Start Recording.

I recommend doing a couple of short [1-5m] test recordings if you're going to be doing multicam with OBS and a GoPro, for instance. Just to make sure things line up properly in your editor.

In what sense?


I had a play with OBS yesterday and found that it might work a few times and then 'start recording' wouldn't work and I had to restart it. Very odd.
Also the relatively small size of the start recording button, and the fact its identical to and immediately adjacent to the start streaming button is frustrating.

This is exacerbated for me by my bad eyesight and my screen resolution 3440×1440 making stuff smaller.

Oh man, that sucks - I agree though, the buttons are a bit small and identically-shaped and colored, so it's easy to confuse them. I never had OBS fail to start recording though.

As far as "lining up in your editor" - I had an issue where I was recording in OBS at 29.97fps because that's what my GoPro footage was reported to be by Windows, but the camera itself had said 30fps. This caused a drift in the sync between my GoPro and OBS where it grew more and more out of sync over the length of the recording, so much so I had to manually adjust it to be back in sync. Resolve just couldn't handle the slight difference in frame rate.

I am pretty sure GoPros (and probably all action cams) are a genuine 30 fps / 60 fps.

Windows still reports my GoPro footage as 29.97fps:

This is why I got confused and had the wrong settings originally.

Honestly, i just hit record and let it go.
Only thing i checked was audio input from both the window i wanted to record and my mic.
