Rich Man Asking For A Dime

R-Rated

Remember to Have Fun! - Solar Bear 2020 Champion
I just watched a cool video on YouTube that was an interview with a creator I follow. Great interview and then the end the interviewer has an outro clip following YouTube's recommendation of calling on the audience to take action on clicking, sub, etc. That is when I was like, "You got to be kidding!"

The guy is looking at the camera and says something along the lines of:

"Hey there fans, new outro, same message. Throw us a bone and hit the like and subscribe button. It is a dog eat dog world on YouTube and we need all the support from you we can get... Blah, blah, blah."

The f-ing channel has 1 MILLION subs! And the video I watched published yesterday has almost 1.5 MILLION views!

Are you kidding me? Begging for subs and likes while you are pulling those numbers?

That is 100% messed up. No better than big corporations buying up mom and pop just to monopolize the market. It made me see the interviewer and creator I followed as nothing better than shills, not artists.

Rant over.
If you like what you read send money to me because I need more motorcycles and full body massages:rolleyes:

You didn't share the channel, but I am uber curious who the interviewer and the creator are now and it's like a worm eating my brain.

It's just a business strategy. Most people are like sheep. If you don't tell them to like, subscribe and share they'll just move on to the next video. That's why every Youtube "expert" and even Youtube will tell you to remind people.

The fastest way to gain subs is to ask. So why not ask. There is nothing wrong with asking and if they only asked at the end and you watched the whole thing to the end then is more than job done on that video.

Asking for subs is one thing but to have that many subs and then present as if your are about to go off the are is another. Business model and sheep aside, youtube is not dog eat dog. We have covered it is capitalism before. The phrasing of throw them a bone in itself is ridiculous. The numbers show an overwhelming turnout in such a short period of time so we are not talking of the Bailey Savings and Loan in It's A Wonderful Life where a man is contemplating suicide over losing all their money but rather Mr Potter who has done very well for himself over time yet it is not quite enough so he needs All the pieces.

I think a lot of the big channels that do that felt they needed to do it in the beginning and then it just became a habit. A lot of people do treat Youtube like a competition and dog eat dog, even in the motovlogging community. It's one of the reasons I stopped motovlogging on a regular basis. I've always felt though that the more other motovloggers grow the larger the potential audience will be for me.

We should all proactively encourage folk to sub if we want to grow but it does sound like in this instance that dramatisation and hyperbole is in excess. If you have 1M subs then if you live off the income generated it is you that needs to do something rather than your viewer if you want to maintain your quality of life.

I hereby promise when I get 1 million subs, I will change my diet. That would be a good lifestyle choice right?

No, I agree. Free markets are never a safe place to totally invest all your eggs in one basket. (Dang another food reference).

I dont think its begging... It's just a networking strategy. People are sheep sadly. If you don't say, they wont do. I don't mind if they ask because at the end of the day its me who decides whether i subscribe or not

I know what networking is, I was asking how running a Patreon account was classed as networking? I asked you as you run Patreon so hoped you would have some insight as you have far more understanding of it than I do (with myself being a conscientious objector lol). Do you have any data that suggests you have gained views or subs to your YouTube channel from using Patreon?

Ohh, my bad LOL. and nah, my patreon sucks balls mate! i just use it to follow others. I only set my page up 1 day because i was bored lol. Can't tell you if i got any traffic to my youtube from it. But im fairly certain the answer is no :D. I can see why most people dislike it though.

I may start using an outro then. Picture this...

Sad music wistfully playing. In the distance you see the Fall Face Rider standing alone. The camera cuts to a close in shot and the Rider is holding a sign that reads:

"Garage nearly empty. Need another bike or two. Please give."

Fade to black.
