Follower fluctuation issues

Who left the rain on?
So yesterday something really odd happened... I gained 25 followers on my YT, put me up to 202, then this morning when I logged into my channel I was down to 175. Does youtube have some sort of system where if you get an unusually large amount of followers that doesn't align with your usual growth, that it just fucks them back out?

I've googled it and the only thing i've found is that it may suspect 'buying' followers? That in itself confuses me, as how you can buy followers?

Confused the hell out of me o_O

People do buy followers and views, and comment/likes... It is against the rules I believe, and also pretty pointless, although I know some Instagrammers who have done so and it has helped their pages get seen and growth. Normally they would buy a few more than 25 though. Buying them, is futile in most cases though, because as soon as they stop getting paid, they'll stop whatever it was they were paid to do, and they will not care about your content at all.

Did you see what video brought those new subscribers to your channel?

My sub count has been treading water for a while now too... I get new subs, but am losing subs at a similar rate too, I am hoping it is just YouTube clearing out bot accounts, but I do wish they would fix it soon if that is the case.

Can't see what brought them in yet, waiting for my analytics page to catch up with the last 24 hrs of chaos

YouTube does some wierd stuff. I regularly cross check my subs to who I am subscribed to. I find YouTube will unsub me at random from channels I watch. Yet not do the same for other channels I subbed that have not had content for a while.

Have to agree, this YT thing is weird at times. I've also had unsubbing me from channels for no reason, and I've had some of my subs say the same once they noticed they'd been unsubbed from me.
It's certainly a fickle old thing

Yea, I've left the support team a message to look into it as I reckon they have pinged it as spam accounts or something. Will see what they say

I'm starting to think it might be something to do with an app I've linked to my channel. I recently checked out that Vid IQ, apparently approved by YouTube, but starting to doubt the authenticity of that now.
It claims to add keywords etc to your videos to make them pop up more on searches, amongst other things. I've used it on a couple of videos so am now wondering if this has some how been flagged up as a violation or something and YouTube are negating the subs it's bringing in..

Anyone have any experience with this app?

I have used the free version for years. I find it insightful versus YouTube just staring blankly back at me.

I'll carry on using it then, the mystery remains unsolved!
