Car driver and Motorcyclist car drivers

Why is it you can tell if a car driver also rides motorcycles, i had someone pull out today as i was passing the junction effectively "into" me but then after tooting my horn he proceeded to act as though he was pulling into the bus lane and then indicated to pull into my lane... then look at me madly because i beeped my horn... I get soo fed up with car driver acting as though we are these fucktards that ride bikes because we have so sadistic wish to kill ourselves and that they think because we are agile and can move out the way IT DOESN'T MEAN WE SHOULD FUCKING HAVE TO! amazing how you never hear of motorcycle drivers crashing into motorcycles!
On another point, people call me stupid for riding a bike because it is so dangerous and everyone seems to of known someone who has crashed on a bike, good for you! until you've tried it don't judge oh and by the way ive known LOADS of people that have had car crashes! cars must be sooo dangerous how do you drive them? until every single car driver in England either rides a motorbike or gets the fuck off the road i am going to go mad with any cager that fucks me around... ive bin riding for 6 months done 8000 miles and have had countless "near" misses... along with one bump... I admit that some of them will of been my fault and at said time I would of understood but 80% are the car drivers fault! OPEN YOUR FUCKING EYES! we don't rely on mirrors for a reason nor should you!

but nah man i know what you mean, ill be honest before i sat my CBT i didnt check my blind spots in the car at all, EVER, nearly pulled into people in different lanes a few times and i used my car to block space in queues etc. BUT then i got a bike and realised how much of a dick cagers are when they do things like that. in short riding a bike has made me a much better driver because i now drive "defensivly" rather than like a 16 year old on ribena and vodka

but seriously someone suggested a while back that they should change the license to be a CBT at 16, then you can go onto a car license at 17 but only after doing a CBT. teach everyone to think defensivly and promote two wheels in the process, woo

Most accidents can be avoided, not all of them of course, by at least one of the drivers or riders being more careful and anticipating things. You learn as you go along, a year ago on my ickle scooter I wouldda rode around presuming that no one would pull out in front of me, because 'damn these people have passed their test they can drive right?'
Nowadays I ride thinking 'that guy is gonna pull out in front of me... yep there he goes' and I brake early and keep well back if I can. You Carl have noticed at Meets that I put a fair amount of distance between me and the person ahead, and that I do not overtake in bad situations.

Obviously I, and nobody, is perfect, but ranting never ever shall help, either take the risk and ride, or even drive, or don't =D

80% of car drivers are inadequate drivers who should not be allowed on the road. Over time you'll learn new things and adapt your riding accordingly. I don't drive a car, and started riding motorcycles on the roads when I was 17. I've learned a lot over the years, the kind of thing only someone who commutes daily really can.

My tip to you is to ride defensively. You've probably already heard it countless times, but basically, be the NICEST person on the road. When someone indicates let them in front of you, always make sure there's plenty of room in front of you. If someone is riding your ass, let them pass by changing lanes etc etc etc. You have to do all the thinking for everyone in their cars as well as for yourself. Because we're not allowed to wave a gun and shoot people in the face when they attempt to murder us (shame really) we've got to do everything we can. Once you start assuming everyone doesn't see you, you'll be able see a potential accident way before it happens.

FS, I'm truly impressed by how much you've matured as a rider in only a year -- & you're so young too. I think you epitomize everything I've posted to this forum over the past year. Even the part where I noted that riders frequently don't/won't listen to "safety first advice" until they've crashed once or twice before (btw, I like that red line in your sig )

You really have come a long way.

Btw, I've never bought into this cookie cutter advice people give newbs on YT where they say "if you're just starting out, get a 250." That's absolute rubbish afaic. Not that I wouldn't recommend a 250 mind you, but I only do it where appropriate. People have a false sense of security with these modern 250's, especially the Ninja250R.

I totally agree with this advice & I'll only add that the risks of riding are manageable -- you just have to know what to look for & how to ride accordingly.

Hmmmmmmm intriguing question, but I'll answer as best I can...

It's not a stupid decision to get the 500, not one bit, with the Er5 I have easily enough power to overtake cars and get away at the lights leaving most vehicles behind... The disadvantages of my baby are that... well the thing is 180 kg or something, that's double my scooter and over three times what I myself weigh!! hahaha, I've dropped it few times, I'm not tall or particularly strong and thus I struggle to pick it up, if I even manage to at all lolz.
Also of course, the added weight makes cornering quite a bit different, which I learned to my peril when going tad bit too fast on a road which on a light bike would be easy if not even fun to navigate, but on a 500, in the dark with no lights, yeah I paid the consequences...
So hmm, I would not ADVISE them too, obviously it's a better idea to work your way up as best as you can (in terms of 250's I'd say the CB 250, ninja 250 is just stupid lol) but not everybody can afford to work their way up, or even be patient enough too...
I wouldn't, NOT, advise anybody, but I wouldn't tell them to definately do it cause its awesome and they'll be fine...

I mean, you know the risks just like you did when you started riding or started to think about riding. But be aware, you're likely to pay for any mistake you make at some point...

Hmmm, interesting. I recall someone posting that most new riders in the UK either get a 125 or a restricted 500-650 bike. Many prefer to skip 250's altogether apparently.

250's are kinda rare around where I am at the very least, I think I've seen... One? And that was nearer Manchester lol
