All new Kodak Playsport!

Postby Vixeres » Sun Feb 14, 2010 8:46 pm

Hi everyone, I stumbled upon this awesome camera while looking for a new setup, I've already written about it once, but I'll just copy my blogpost onto here (or check out the blogpost on my blog, click here!):

While looking for a new camera setup, I stumbled upon this all new Kodak Camera, and it simply says motovlog all over it! I'll post a short list of cool features and info I've been able to snatch from the internets:

* HD (1920 x 1080) at 30 fps (16:9 widescreen?)
* SDHC card compatibility, up to 32 GB (10 hours of footage)
* Waterproof (up to 3 meters, that includes rain LOEL!!!)
* Built-in electronic image stabilization (overtaking the zi8!)

To me it seems that Kodak has made a really good camera for vloggers, and especially motovloggers!

Release date: "Estimated Ship Date: March 17, 2010"

That's all for today :)

Looks cool but at the same time, seems it would be a little awkward? Might work just the same as the Vado does though which shouldnt be to bad. The next question would be, is the mic all that good? From it's specs, i'm guessing the image quality will be fine! But without a good mic, it's rendered pretty much useless i think. I would like to own one though lol.

Price... Seems a little steep for a cam i'm only using to vlog with :D

I've been trying to find information about the microphone, or if you can connect an external one, but I have been unsuccessful so far :/

It seems that it's just the Zi8, but with image stabilization, and waterproof :p .. It's $149.95!

Is that america dollers? Because when Mr. UK Tax man gets hold of it, it's still going to cost almost £150.00 which i dont wish to pay, so i'll wait till it gets cheap hehe!

If it has a short range mic, like the other Kodaks, it'll be fine, but if it's a long range mic - like on my LG, it's really bad! Everything is super loud upclose (in the helmet) and it's not useable!

Could that be a mic jack on the lower left corner by a usb port?

Yeah it's american dollars.

Holy shit, UK Tax man sounds angry! It's cheaper than the Zi8 though, which in USA is $199.95 :O

Anyway, I've been leaning towards the VadoHD, looks really good for motovlogging :)

I'm waiting until I can see some test footage. I'm especially interested in how wide angle the picture will be. Something which I find to be the only lacking point of my Zi8, the camera image can be a bit narrow at times.

From the description, it really does just sound like a Zi8 with waterproofing.

@Desmovalves: Try switching between the modes - the lens on the Zi8 does have slight variations when used in the different resolution modes. Some give a slightly wider angle than others.

Indeed, 1080p does have a more narrow field of view than 720p. For Youtube I will most likely return to the WGA format 848x480 because of filesize and battery life.

You forget the image stabilization feature. If it's good it'll be a great feature for motovloggers I think.
