Sleeping Problems [I need some advice]

Postby hughes111 » Mon Jan 25, 2010 5:56 pm

Hey Guys and Girls,
So where do i start... I've been having some pretty bad problems latly which are starting to affect my days, it doesn't matter if i go to sleep early or late, it seems to make no difference. I will wake up in the morning at some point, normally anywhere from 6am till 11am (even with an alarm, i remain alseep till somewhere in this time zone). When i come round, i will be thinking "Right, time to get up". But i just... Can't. I will then normally fall into a deep sleep and remain like that for hours untill i finally wake in the afternoon and jump out of bed knowing i've overslept and wasted my day! I cant seem to control it? Like i said, i could go to sleep at 7pm or 4am... It's always the same no matter what time i go to sleep and it's starting to REALLY get on my nerves! It's ruining and wasting so much of my time and to say the least, my life itself!

Other times i will try to go to sleep early, i'll go to bed at say 8pm (early) and with the light off, Tv Off etc... I'll remain awake no matter how much i try for hours untill the early hours of the morning. I've tried to change my sleeping pattern, that doesnt work either! I've stayed up for 24 hours to fix it before, gone to sleep at around 9pm and woke up at 7am just fine! Got on with my day, but then the next day or the day after, everything gets flipped again and i go back into the messed up patterns...

1) Does anybody have a solution?
2) Does anybody have the same issues, had them or know somebody like this?
3) Do you think i should see my Doctor about this?

4) Does anybody know anything about this if it's some form of illness? (which i hope it's not)

Hughes.

Yes. Go see a doctor.
Life may begin at 30, but it doesn't get real interesting until about 150.

Have you tried any medicine to help you sleep? I know it can help I sometimes use it when I struggle to sleep, but it would be expensive and possibly unhealthy for continued use. Their designed so that you gradually stop taking them and you sleep just as well as you did with them =) They kinda worked for me! haha

You can get them at just a local pharmacy, I think I had one called Night-Nurse, sounds ... gay, but it worked lolz

I have trouble sleeping in just I CANNOT FALL ASLEEP! I lie awake daydreaming unable to help myself! Takes me at least 2 hours to fall asleep yey xD

I wish I could help H, but I've not had this problem yet. Hopefully someone has had some experience with this one.

Altho, I was wondering... Do u still have trouble sleeping/getting up after being 'tucked-in' or when she whispers in ur ear in the morning? ;)

Do you consume large amounts of sugar, caffeine or other stimulating substances? If so, it is advisory to reduce your consumption.

Are you currently working or studying? Do you have a fixed daily schedule to keep? I have been told by friends who have gone unemployed for a lengthy period of time that without a "reason to get out of bed" their sleeping pattern will just run wild.
If you have a girlfriend or someone else in the house, ask them to wake you up at a fixed moment in time in the morning. Say 8.AM. You must get out of bed at that time. Regardless if you had 2 or 14 hours of sleep. Your body will adapt to this waking pattern and restructure your biological clock around it.

Do a lot of sports if you can.

Although I am no doctor I would advise against the use of any sort of medication. However, always follow the advise of your GP, regardless of what people say on the internet

I may be out of line in asking, but if your a man who likes to smoke the old wacky-tabacky, that can cause problems with your sleep. That's why you'll often hear people have a bedtime smoke to get them into that relaxed state so they can sleep. When you go without it, it does cause insomnia. So you can either leave off it for a few weeks and let it sort itself out, or have a smoke before bed.
(Hope I'm not breaking any forum rules by bringing this up)

See your doc. Today.
It's fun being the voice of reason...especially when no one listens!

For a mere $10 a week, I will go over to your house and dump cold water on you and punch you in the face while yelling angry slogans at you until you wake up.
Disclaimer: I am not responsible for long-term side effects such as difficulty getting to sleep, nightmares, bruising, shakes, or mental trauma.

If I were you, I'd go running an hour before bed (good physical health seems to aid in most issues), take a quality multivitamin, cut out caffeinated products, take a SINGLE shot of your favorite alcohol as a night cap (aids in blood flow, small amounts reduce cancer/cardiac risks, and is a natural depressant), invest in a nice 2" memory foam topper and good pillow, and if you have a camera that can record for long stretches on AC power I'd record yourself sleeping in dim light. I've read that people with sleep apnea due to poor airways can feel tired even after resting, which may show up on video and might be alleviated just by sleeping on your side or chest instead of back. Still good idea to get a pro opinion though, but its nice if when you go you can say "I tried this this and this, and found this and this on tape and bla bla bla". Just like with a broken car or computer, more symptoms helps them narrow down the problem.

PS: You probably have full blown AIDS. :(

(see now when you go to the doc, even if he says you have something, you can be like "WHEW, at least I don't have AIDS!!!")
